Officium Triste

Ne Vivam, the 1997 debut from the Dutch band Officium Triste, is a classic example of a perfect, though generic, representation of a genre. In this case, the genre is doomdeath. Officium Triste's style is very slow, dreary, ponderous doom metal overlayed with brutal death metal vocals. The familiar influences here are worth mentioning, such as early Paradise Lost or early My Dying Bride minus the violins. Ne Vivam is adequately arranged and produced, a fine entry in the doomdeath field, but it doesn't stray at all from the confines of said genre, and thus it doesn't stand out as being much different frmo many other albums of this style. It's a fine addition to doomdeath completists, but not of interest to those not into the slower side of metal.
