Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals

Phil Anselmo, of course, needs no introduction to any metal fan. Being the frontman for the mighty Pantera would have been enough, but even back in those days he was always fronting other bands and projects, though as this has his name in the title, this was at least initially labelled a solo project. Though his many bands didn't all sound the same, they usually fit into one of the more extreme metal genre slots, and that's the case here, as 2018's Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue is a rather choppy, death-tinged sludgey affair, with the vocals somewhat oddly not as front and center as one might expect.
