Raunchy
A Danish band called Raunchy might conjure certain assumptions as
to what this band's style might be like.
The band name itself might bring to mind hard rock or possibly
glam, and that is way off the mark in this case.
Bands from Denmark often slot into thrash, death, or melodic power
metal genres, and Raunchy doesn't fit into any of those categories
either.
Instead, the debut album
Velvet Noise
delivers a heavy, slightly industrial metal vibe,
with a few nu-metal touches,
sometimes in the realm of
Fear Factory mode but
perhaps more often reminiscient of
Strapping Young Lad,
particularly when the clean vocal choruses come through.
Some have put this band right into the nu-metal bin, which doesn't
seem correct -- a modern American influence is detected, but it's
just that, an influence rather than a direct style description.
With a second album (
Confusion Bay) expanding on the debut's style,
it appears that Raunchy, to their credit, is a bit outside of most
genres, forging a sound with familiar elements but not really
sounding directly like anyone, save for the aforementioned two bands.
