Sore Plexus

Sore Plexus was a quirky but quite interesting band out of Bochum, playing a frenzied brand of distinctively Germanic technical/progressive metal. The arrangements are varied, with tempo changes aplenty, and the band also has a penchant for odd song titles ("Choco Frights", "Flyger My Chung", "Cardriver's Weekend", etc.). The musicianship is very, very good, with the possible exception of the vocals, which might be described as an acquired taste. Wavering and sometimes seemingly out of control, some might prefer a more classic metal voice, but the opinion here is that the unorthodox style blends well with the general chaos of the songs. This band takes a bit of getting used to, but there are very few bands, then or now, attempting this sort of style. Their vocalist, Cassy, was replaced soon after their second release, and founding guitarist Dirk Nowak's decision to depart around 2000 most likely forced the band to break up.
