Stormlord

Stormlord has been around for a number of years, forming back in 1991 though their first record didn't appear until 1997. A listen to 2001's At The Gates Of Utopia reveals the band mainly in the black metal camp (particularly given the distant raspy vocals), but with a noticeable power metal influence that comes to the surface now and again. The ethereal keyboards (at times reminiscient of fellow Italians Opera IX) give the sound a nice symphonic edge, without overpowering the guitars. Niether truly original nor mere copycats, Stormlord have carved a good career for themselves and are solid representatives of the symphonic black metal genre.
