Suidakra was formed in 1994, originally as Gloryfication, with the
intent of blending black and traditional metal with folk influences.
While their early material may well be described as folky black
metal, the two albums reviewed here (The Arcanum and
Emprise To Avalon) have only minor folk influences and virtually
no black metal influences at all.
Instead, the style here is crunchy, hardened melodic death metal,
somewhat in the vein of Swedish bands such as
(unique for a German band),
not quite in the Gothenburg arena but not too far away from that
The production and musicianship here is excellent, as it's clear
that these guys have been maturing with each release.
2003 sees the release of their sixth album, Signs For The Fallen.
