Tearabyte
It's turn-back-the-clock time on
Gloom Factory,
the third (and possibly last) album by this thrash
trio who initially formed in Los Angeles but spent
much of their life in Dallas.
Though recorded in 2004, it might just as well have
been released in 1990, as it reeks of prime retro
thrash, right down to the vocal style and production
values.
That's both a good and bad thing -- on the good side,
they've nailed the style well, and aside from the oddity
such as the novel, full-on speed metal version of Pink Floyd's
"Comfortably Numb", is heads-down thrashing all the way.
On the down side, a lot of albums released during
the thrash boom started sounding pretty samey, and
ultimately
Gloom Factory might suffer the same fate.
All in all, not an essential band, but a worthwhile addition
to a thrash fanatic's collection.
