Comprising of two brothers who decided to start a band in 2003,
Wolves In The Throne Room are one of the rising stars in American
black metal, a genre led by cult bands such as Xasthur and Leviathan.
Diadem Of 12 Stars, the band's 2006 debut, is a grim, cold, dissonant
slice of prime Norse-inspired black metal, though relying more on
midpaced atmospherics than hyperspeed blastbeats.
The songs are long (almost every one over ten minutes in length) and
flowing, the vocals distant per the norm for the genre.
There's not a lot of blinding originality here, but this is
well-developed and worthy of the praise they're receiving.
