Xandria

Xandria is one of a few German entries into the gothic metal field, debuting in 2003 with Kill The Sun and more recently delivering their fourth album in 2007, by the name of Salomé - The Seventh Veil. This is lighter, accessible gothic metal, more or less along the lines of Dutch bands such as After Forever or Within Temptation. Lisa Schaphaus-Middelhauve has an excellent, graceful voice, perfectly suited to this style, and the flowing keyboards and guitars complement her well. Several reviews state that the earlier works have a pronounced Oriental influence, though that is less apparent on Salomé, coming through now and again (like on the title track) but no longer a dominant feature of their music. Though this won't appeal to those who ordinarily aren't into upbeat gothic metal, Xandria is clearly on top of their game.
