Xandria

Xandria is one of a few German entries into the gothic metal field, debuting in 2003 with Kill The Sun and more recently delivering their fourth album in 2007, by the name This is lighter, accessible gothic metal, more or less along the lines of Dutch bands such as After Forever or Within Temptation. Lisa Schaphaus-Middelhauve has an excellent, graceful voice, perfectly suited to this style, and the flowing keyboards and guitars complement her well. Several reviews state that the earlier works have a pronounced Oriental influence, though that is less apparent on but no longer a dominant feature of their music. Though this won't appeal to those who ordinarily aren't into upbeat gothic metal, Xandria is clearly on top of their game.
