Ahoora
Formed in 2001,
Ahoora is the second Persian band featured on these pages
(the first being
Mordab),
and one of probably not many bands from that area.
Obviously it's been an uphill battle for these guys, playing metal in
a country that often frowns on Western-influenced cultures and ideals.
But they've persevered, releasing three albums thus far and still making
headway.
Reviewed here is the middle of the three, 2007's
All In Blood With You.
Unfortunately it's rather primitively recorded (sounding more like a demo),
but once one gets beyond that, there's plenty going on.
Basically the style is a sort of dark metal, semi-deathy at times,
a bit thrashy at others, but with some interesting variations and,
as one might expect, some nods to their homeland in the form of a few
Eastern musical touches.
It's been said that these guys would prefer to leave their country in
order to grow -- if that happens, these guys could be worth watching.
Even now, though, they are intriguing enough to warrant a listen.
