Atramentus
Funeral doom is a rather sparse genre, both in terms of the music
itself as well as the relatively few bands who excel at it.
Canada's Atramentus breathes new life into the genre with 2020's
Stygian.
Like the stalwarts of the scene
(
Skepticism,
Disembowelment,
to name two),
the focus here is on ulta-slow, minimalist, organ-driven dirge,
and while they aren't reinventing the wheel here, Atramentus's sound
is powerful, foreboding, and, well, funereal.
Arguably the best funeral doom record of the last several years at least.
