Battle Beast

This Finnish sextet have a feather in their cap, winning the prestigious Wacken Open Air Metal Battle Contest in 2010. They debuted a year later, and two years after that Nuclear Blast Records snapped them up, furthering their popularity. Their style mixes prime Euro power metal with a decided 80's pop influences, resulting in tunes with plenty of catchy hooks and flourishing keyboards alongside some decent metal riffing. The band is tight and energetic, but the overt pop sensibilities lend an antiseptic, manufactured feel to the proceedings, which might lead one to question just how metal this band really is. Battle Beast have made their mark in the rock world, and they should be commended for that, but those looking for real metal will probably find this a bit too mainstream.
