Battlelore

Battlelore, the self-proclaimed "Arctic Fantasy Metal" band, forned in 1999, with a demo recorded a year later winning the band a contract with Napalm Records. Visually and lyrically, the band is heavily influenced by J.R.R. Tolkien, while musically their style is a fairly original blend of gothic metal (particularly the well-balanced male growl vs. clean female vocals), traditional metal, and some keyboard flourishes that are catchy yet not overtly commercial-sounding. Though these styles may not sound that unique, Battlelore somehow manages to sound relatively different than most bands with similar styles, and for that alone they deserve recognition.
