Bloody Panda
An odd name for an odd band, this mob features a
female Japanese vocalist (apparently a visual artist
with little if any musical background) backed by
a New York metal quartet.
Musically, this is sparse, droning funeral doom,
impossibly slow and dreary, though like other drone
acts not reliant on crushing heaviness.
Yoshiko Ohara's vocals are, in a way, a positive,
as her semi-tuneless,
ethereal style (punctuated by the occasional shriek or moan)
is an interesting fit, rather than the extreme death
vocals that others in this field might employ.
From a listenability standpoint, Bloody Panda is similar to
fellow drone-ists such as
Khanate,
Boris,
or Sunn O))), that being that a majority of listeners (even
experienced metal fans) will find this just too tedious and slow,
but for those that get it, these guys and gal fit the bill.
