Dr. Chunk
A young and promising band from San Diego, Dr. Chunk's
self-released, self-titled debut is an excellent mix of old-school
metal (almost thrash in a few places) with modern influences and
attitude.
The songs are upbeat, accessible and catchy yet still rock in a pure
metal fashion, aided by a surprisingly clean production.
Some have placed this band in the nu-metal category, which is
only partially accurate, and this is mostly due to vocalist
Tighe Werntz, who displays an impressive range of styles
(a bit of nu-metal rapping, once in awhile) and possesses a fine
voice tailor made for metal.
Dr. Chunk is a great debut and hopefully only the start of
something big.
