Devil
Naming a band Devil is a rather interesting move.
In one sense it seems like a lot to live up to, while in another sense
the name is rather obvious in a stereotypical sense (of course Devil
is a heavy metal band).
No doubt there were and are several bands over the years with that name,
it's a bit of a wonder that none have really risen over the years.
Anyway, this Devil is a Norwegian band who put out their third album,
To The Gallows, in 2017.
Their previous two efforts are reportedly in the doom mold, but
Gallows has only faint doom traces, instead opting for a healthy
NWOBHM style and a rather straightforward, catchy yet still heavy
style.
It's not the flashiest or most intricate of metal albums,
nor is it particularly modern,
but it's
satisfying in a down-to-earth classic metal sense.
Worth seeking out.
