Gwar

The bizarre outfit known as Gwar formed in the late 80's by vocalist Dave Brockie (then toiling in a punk band called Death Piggy), who latched on to the idea of incorporating larger-than-life stage props to a live metal show. Within the space of a few years their reputation as one of the most outrageous live acts grew to astronomical proportions. An outlandish, over-the-top affair combining sci-fi, horror, and pornography, their live shows simply cannot be missed. For the most part their live act has overshadowed their music, but that's not entirely fair, as their later albums have displayed a decent level of sophistication and quality.

Sadly, Brockie passed away in March 2014. As of this writing the future of the band is in doubt.
