In Ruins

Debuting as Black Thorns in 1994 before switching names prior to their debut album, In Ruins belong in the post-doomdeath, dark metal arena, once occupied by bands such as Sentenced or Amorphis. Decidedly European-sounding, they don't seem particularly original but don't really sound like any other one band either. There are some good atmospheric sections, some nice classical influences, and in general a fair bit of diversity, but as a whole Four Seasons Of Grey didn't quite hit the mark. They split from Metal Blade after several years of inactivity and then spent several more years working on the followup album, which was finished in 2006 but didn't see a proper release until 2010. They are likely done at this point.
