Katagory V

Katagory V hailed from Utah and released four albums during a 15-year initial run spanning from 1999 to 2014. The style here is 80's traditional metal with an slight early progressive edge (think early Queensryche or Fates Warning). The production (as heard on their last album, 2007's Hymns Of Dissension) isn't quite up to modern standards, though it's capable enough and in some sense is in line with the early 80's vibe. Fine for the style, though they were never able to climb to the upper echelon of the field. Nine years after hanging it up, founder Dustin Mitchell put together a new version of the band in 2023 and a new album is set for a May 2025 release.
