Majster Kat

Slovakia's Majster Kat is yet another band embracing the revival of thrash metal in the new millennium, debuting in 2007 with Svata Zvrhlost. Given the wide range of thrash bands these days, this album is far more old-school than modern, though it doesn't quite fit the retro craze that's currently in vogue. This is speedy and energetic, and at times slightly complex in the riff and songwriting departments. Vocalist Slymák is the wild card here -- he has kind of a high-pitched, curiously out-of-control vocal style that might be offputting to some (a distant memory says that Living Death's Thorsten Bergmann might have had a similar style). While unlikely to ever be an international force (singing in their native language may ultimately keep them from making serious headway), Svata Zvrhlost is an entertaining listen in any case. The band managed to release a second album in 2014.
