Master

Master is one of a handful of first-generation Russian metal bands, formed in 1987 after several members of another well-known Russian band (Aria) had a falling out with that band's manager. At their peak they were one of the countries most popular metal bands, with their first two albums selling more than three million copies combined. The lineups have changed often over the years, with bassist Alik Granovsky the sole remaining member from the early days. Stylistically, the early albums such as Master and Talk Of The Devil focused on inventive 80's speed/thrash, with a vocalist that sounded uncannily like Klaus Meine of the Scorpions, that is if Klaus Meine sang in Russian for a speed metal band. By the time of 2001's Labyrinth the style was slightly less thrash-based, though still fast-paced, enjoyable metal. They are still active and as of summer 2009 are working on new material.
