Ocean Machine

Ocean Machine was a side project of Devin Townsend, who has been involved in several projects over the past few years but is probably best known for his main band, Strapping Young Lad. Biomech sounded nothing like SYL, but is in fact an immensely enjoyable album, and one that really sounded like no one else in particular, mixing a heavy yet relaxed style with atmospheric effects (kind of like a heavier Pink Floyd), and an overall style that is heavy and accessible (but not commercial or poppy), a style that he would later explore further in his alternate band, Devin Townsend Band. A variety of moods is on display here, and the songs transition very nicely, and there's always that now-familiar Townsend sound, that seemingly no one else can duplicate. Arguably one of the best albums Devin has ever done.
