Oil

Oil is one of those "where are they now?" bands, of initial interest to some due to featuring someone from a previously well-known band. Here the man in question is Ron Rinehart, former vocalist from the standout thrash band Dark Angel. But Oil is quite removed from being just another version of that band. First, Ron and his bandmates are Christian, a fact made abundantly clear in their lyrics. Second, the style here has little in common with Dark Angel. Make no mistake, Oil are quite heavy, but they aren't a thrash band, instead relying on a more contemporary mid-paced power groove, with Rinehart's vocals far more soulful than they were in his DA days. The lyrical content is, as previously mentioned, heavily Christian and slightly preachy, though they are delivered with conviction. They announced their breakup in July 2004.
