Orchid
Orchid hail from San Francisco and are heavily influenced by
Black Sabbath.
That may sound simplistic, after all Sabbath is the father of all things
metal and many doom bands are at least indirectly influenced by them.
But Orchid sound a LOT like early Sabbath, right down to the guitar/bass
riffs and tones,
the production values, even the singing (the vocalist doesn't
sound a lot like Ozzy, but he sings in a very similar style).
And the songs don't sound like third-rate knock-offs, but
instead they're quality compositions that, again, sound an awful
lot like Sabbath in their heyday.
In staying so true to the source, Orchid have ironically differentiated
themselves from the hordes of doom bands out there, and for that they
are to be commended.
