Öxxö Xööx

Lest anyone think that this band isn't going for the weird-for-the-sake-of-weirdness vibe in full, just check out the song titles. The egregious overuse of umlauts is but one sign that something strange is afoot -- the band has even made up its own language to serve as lyrics. Things make a bit of sense when one sees shared membership with the even more bizarro (though quite different) Igorrr, but still, this is pretty obtuse material on display. The style is dense, choppy, symphonic doom, with deathy and operatic vocals intertwining angular and ever-shifting riffs. In small doses it's a rather cool and striking sound, but the songs are long and blur together far too often, leaving little for the listener to grab onto. There's some hidden brilliance to be found, but probably only for a select few.
