Shaman

Shaman was founded after the well-publicized split of the Brazilian metal band Angra, with the two guitarists recruiting a new Angra lineup and the other three forging a new band on their own. As a result, it's no surprise that their debut, 2002's Ritual, does bear a similarity to prime Angra, though in fact it's a bit heavier overall, owing more to Germanic power metal than melodic progressive metal as Angra is known for. A second album, Reason, was released in 2005, after which the band altered their name, deciding to proceed as Shaaman. A year later they announced their breakup, rumored to be caused by the usual personal/musical differences, but in 2007 drummer Ricardo Confessori recruited a new lineup, and the band (back to their previous name Shaman) was back in action. That incarnation lasted until 2014, and after another period of inactivity, one final version of the band lasted from 2018 to 2023, releasing Rescue in 2022.
