Sonja
Sonja was formed by vocalist/guitarist Melissa Moore in 2014,
and after a time was put on hold when Moore joined
Absu
for a time.
After leaving that band (apparently kicked out for being trans),
Moore revived Sonja and finally released a debut album,
Loud Arriver,
in 2022.
No Absu-ish black metal here, this is a traditional metal album
with a goth rock edge,
inevitably and favorably compared to bands such as
Unto Others
who seem to the poster children for this style.
Led by driving rhythms, intricate guitar work and clear mid-range
vocals,
Loud Arriver is a fine debut in a still-sparse
field.
