Syris
One of several late-nineties American bands who aimed to
keep alive the glory of eighties metal, Chicago's Syris
played classic power metal with slight progressive touches.
Formed by guitarist Scott Payne, the band managed to release
a self-titled debut album in 1995, but on the eve of a tour
for that album, Payne fell ill, and eventually tragically passed
away.
Syris disbanded at that time, with drummer Sean Brown eventually
deciding to recruit a new lineup, a lineup which eventually
recorded
Unseen Forces.
After that, Brown himself left, along with guitarist Paul
Speredes, and with no original members left, the Syris name was
laid to rest once again.
Several of the members are still active in the
Chicago metal scene, with
Spirit Web and
Twelfth Gate.
