Weedpecker
Poland is no stranger to metal, of course, but stoner rock is not
thought of as a Polish staple.
Yet here we have the rather juvenile-named Weedpecker plying their trade,
having formed in 2012 and with their third album, simply titled
III, released in 2018.
While their name might imply a similarity to more sludgey pot-inspired
bands like, say,
Sleep,
these guys take a more relaxed, psychedelic, almost space rock-ish
approach
(even if their early work apparently had a bit more of the heavier style).
And if the band name is a bit infantile, the music is not -- this is
superbly crafted psychedelic stoner rock/metal, with drawn-out tracks
that dip and glide but never lose focus.
It's not all trippy easy listening though, as their jammy side does
emerge from time to time, and they excel there as well.
