Witchfinder General
One of the most beloved NWOBHM bands of all time,
Witchfinder General was also one of the few bands of that era
to opt for the classic early
Black Sabbath
dirge rather than the more uptempo metal of most of their
countrymen.
They recorded only two albums in their short career, the
absolute classic
Death Penalty and the capable followup
Friends Of Hell, the albums receiving widespread fan approval not
only for the great music but also the infamous album covers,
featuring topless model Joanne Latham (a friend of the band)
and her cohorts under the guise of tortured would-be witches.
The original incarnation didn't last long, as the band was done
by 1984, but a modified lineup emerged in 2006 and a
final album,
Resurrection, came out in 2008.
