Baboon Rising

Baboon Rising was formed by two high schoolers in 1987 (though it seems to be largely a one-man effort these days), with no aspirations of becoming rock stars but instead just churning out interesting music. They've been recording pretty steadily from the moment they were formed (there were several earlier private/local tapes and albums made before the ones listed below), with their most recent album being 2012's Gyroscope. The style is a bit hard to pin down, but it's somewhat progressive in nature, heavy, diverse, with some nice guitarwork, an odd, semi-spoken, not terribly melodic vocal style, and obviously inventive/irreverant lyrics as evidenced by the song titles. A quirky little band, but a nice diversion from all the mainstream stuff that's out there, and worth a listen.
