BiastFear
With their new album
All Angels Scream,
Ohio's Biastfear look to make a statement.
Their style is self-described as "Heavy-Hop", mixing elements
metal, hip-hop, and r&b (courtesy of new lead singer Crystal).
The result is as interesting and original as the description might
suggest -- not always an immediate listen, as some of the songs
take some getting used two, but Crystal's vocals are excellent and
the songs stand up well.
Certainly a unique twist on metal, definitely worth checking out.
The band's earlier album,
The Ties That Bind, is a more
conventional affair, at least in comparison to the new material,
opting for ultra-heavy riffing mixed with some sampling, sounding
at times a bit like
Fear Factory, at other times maybe like
Crowbar.
An interesting album, though no longer really supported by the
band as it has little to do with their current direction.
In July 2003 the band announced that they would be going on
an indefinite hiatus to reassess their goals, but they are probably
disbanded now.
