Cult Of Luna

The style of atmospheric hardcore-influence noise used to be more or less the domain of a single band, that being Neurosis, though other bands more in the hardcore field have delved in this area at times. Cult Of Luna is a newer band that has nailed the Neurosis style to a T, with the same sort of drawn-out, slow-building songs culminating in ferocious dissonant guitars and tortured vocals that usually are mixed slightly behind the instruments. As Neurosis has been a BNR favorite for some time, it will come as no surprise that this band also comes highly recommended. Though it's tempting to downgrade the band as their sound is so close to that of Neurosis, the fact is that few bands play this style, and it's not an easy style to grasp, and Cult Of Luna do it almost as well as the masters.
