Demimonde
Add Demimonde to the list of weirdo Czech bands that emerged
around the turn of the millennium, these six teenagers forming
in 1996 with the goal of recording truly original music.
The band's first recording was 1997's
The Warrior's Poets
(sometimes referred to as an album, but apparently it's better
classified as a demo), and by 2000 they recorded their
sole true album,
Mutant Star.
With two programmers in the lineup along with a self-description
of "cosmic post-modern art", it comes as no surprise that this
is a strange listen, with spacey keyboards, all sorts of vocal
styles, complex riffing, and the like.
Though far from a direct soundalike, for some reason
Korova
comes to mind when listening to these guys.
Fans of the offbeat will likely find something fascinating
here.
Apparently they broke up a year or so after
Mutant Star's
release, and it appears that some members took that album
name and ran with it, forming a new band called Mutant Star
that explores other (presumably non-metal) arenas.
