Moon Tooth
Long Island's Moon Tooth is an oddity,
and like many left-field bands, this
manifests itself in the band name, album and song titles, and of
course the music itself.
Chromaparagon, the band's 2016 debut full-length following an EP
a few years earlier,
can only be slotted as progressive metal, but
this is no
Dream Theater
clone, rather this is more akin to a 90's alterna-metal act
careening off the rails songwriting-wise.
The songs are varied and quirky, with little regard for airplay or
mass appeal, and the musicianship is tech-metal quality, and
topping it off are the clear, melodic, yet completely unmetallic
vocals of one John Carbone.
This is the type of album that takes several listens to
absorb, and even then one may not really get what the band is going for.
It's bands like Moon Tooth who really deserve the label "progressive".
