Sound Barrier
Sound Barrier formed in the early eighties and gained some notoriety
for featuring all African-American members
(
Black Death
was one of the very few others at the time).
They signed to MCA and duly released
Total Control, a competant if
dated slice of hard rock/metal.
Despite some decent reviews, it didn't sell well and MCA soon dropped
the band.
They managed a self-financed EP and later a second full-length
album
Speed Of Sound, by which time they were no longer an all-black
band as they had recruited a Romanian bassist.
Some time after that release, Italian guitar prodigy
Alex Masi
joined the band
(a joining facilitated by their mutual record label, Metal Blade), and
through a series of lineup changes, Sound Barrier effectively ceased to
exist and Masi the band was born (two SB members here, Dave Brown and
Bernie K., appeared on the
first Masi release
Fire In The Rain in 1987).
