StarGazer

These Australians have been around a few years, recording the odd 7" and split album before finally debuting with a full-length album in 2005, many of the songs written years before. The Scream That Tore The Sky is chock full of jumpy, chaotic riffing, the band rarely sticking with one riff for more than a few seconds. This makes for an exhaustive listen, and the everchanging riffs leads to songs tending to run together, but this is quality technical death metal, done with amazing precision and style. The vocals vary between blackened rasps (the predominant style) and death growls, suitably vicious without being overbearing. Their complexity might limit their mainstream appeal, but fans into technical death metal will find plenty to enjoy here.
