Third Ion
Third Ion is a Canadian/American project featuring a couple of ties
to two standout Canadian bands in
Devin Townsend Band
and
Into Eternity.
On the 2015 debut
13/8 Bit, the quartet plays a
form of progressive metal with a fair amount of technical wizardry
and relaxed, clear vocals
on display.
One of the unique aspects of this band is hinted in the album title,
that being the use of video-game-like synthesizers
(so-called "nintendocore" bands like
Horse The Band
have dabbled with this effect, though they come from a different angle).
These effects don't overwhelm the music, and in fact Third Ion would be
a quality band even without them, but they do add a touch of originality.
Lyrically the band continues the video game theme along with some
science fiction references as well.
A solid first outing.
