Cataract

Cataract came into being in 1998, the members wishing to pursue metallic hardcore. They have recorded on a few labels, noticeably the hardcore-laden Lifeforce label (for 2003's Great Days Of Vengeance) and most recently on Metal Blade for With Triumph Comes Loss. Fedi's vocals are the main reason most will slot this band in the metalcore category, but Triumph bears little resemblance to the more melodic, Swedish-influenced crop of metalcore bands making the rounds these days. Instead, this is by and large a heavy thrash album, with noticeable Slayer influences in the riffs and drumming, with bands such as The Haunted and Hatebreed also figuring as reference points. Armed with a meaty production, Triumph packs a punch, and is a solid pick for metalcore/modern thrash fans.
