Four Stroke Baron

Four Stroke Baron have garnered acclaim in some metal (and, one might guess, non-metal) circles for their oddly-titled Classics album (this is not a compilation!) released in 2021. Classics is an odd blend of alterna-prog, some electronica, and vocals that sound uncannily like the singer from Tears For Fears. The album was produced by Devin Townsend, and the influence goes beyond twiddling the knobs, as when Baron are at their heaviest, they have that very-heavy-yet-still-strangely-upbeat feel that Devin has made a living from. The sound is full and lush and there's plenty of solid musicianship on display, and the many disparate styles help the songs maintain some individuality. It's all a bit strange, and those into traditional metal may not find this to their liking, but left-field fans might.
