The Agonist

The Agonist made a splash in 2007 with the release of their debut album Once Only Imagined, featuring a solid (if not wholly unique) take on metalcore and a clearly rising star in vocalist Alyssa White-Gluz, who got all sorts of attention for her looks, her social and political views, and her voice (a pretty fair clean voice as well as a nasty hardcore snarl). The band continued to move up the ranks, and then in 2014 White-Gluz somewhat suddenly (and, as it turned out, acrimoniously) departed to take the highly coveted gig in Arch Enemy. The band quickly recruited a replacement and carried on, finally officially disbanding in May 2023.
