Amaranthe

Originally formed under the name Avalanche, Amaranthe quickly took the Scandinavian metal scene by storm, as their debut, self-titled 2011 album hit several national charts and subsequent albums have done even better. Their style derives from melodic metal but with a everpresent pop edge, with pristine driving guitars and rhythms and catchy vocals. The band employ three lead singers (female clean, male clean, male harsh -- the latter of which gives a slight metalcore flavor), though the dominant presence is Elize Ryd and her clear, melodic singing driving the choruses in particular. Hardened metal fans will likely find this band too commercial for their tastes, but there's no denying their success.
