Below emerged from the Swedish metal scene in 2012 and
quickly attracted the interest of
Metal Blade
Records, resulting in a debut album in 2014 and a second,
Upon A Pale Horse, in 2017.
Horse nails traditional doom metal to a T, evoking bands such
as (inevitably)
Candlemass
or
Solitude Aeturnus,
with soaring clean vocals, and ponderous, grandiose riffs
gracing each track.
The band does not stray far off the usual boundaries of the doom metal
genre, but they execute perfectly, and are thus a solid recommendation
for those into classic doom.
