Chapel Of Disease

Germany's Chapel Of Disease is one of those comparatively rare bands that truly progress throughout their lifetime. Following a career arc somewhat similar to, say, Tribulation, Chapel Of Disease has made remarkable transformation from album to album, almost a linear progression from death metal to something quite unique. Indeed, in comparing the 2012 debut Summoning Black Gods with its straightforward primitive death metal stylings to 2024's Echoes Of Light one might think they were entirely different bands. Echoes has zero death metal influences save the rough vocals (which are really more coarse rather than the stereotypical growls), and in many places the album is barely metallic at all, instead meandering into melodic prog and alternative metal influences. It's a pretty heady album, quite original and an interesting listen. Shortly after the release of Echoes, the trio was reduced to one, leaving vocalist/guitarist Laurent Teubl to either forge ahead with a new lineup or put the band to rest.
