no further than Finnish duo Convocation.
No doubt inspired by the Big 3 of 90's doomdeath
(notably early
My Dying Bride,
though there's more of a funeral bent here),
the tunes are sprawling and massive, with choirs and
violins augmenting the massive riffs and tortured
yet nuanced vocals.
Funeral doom will never be the most popular of metal genres,
but when it's done right (as it is here), it's quite moving.
