Fragments Of Unbecoming

Fragments Of Unbecoming is Germany's entry in the ever-popular Scandinavian-styled melodic death field. A Sylphe's Ascension, the band's second album, is pretty much melo-death by the numbers, expertly executed if not radically different than others in the field. The drumming is a bit odd, as the drummer employs a sort of staccato, machine-gun-like snare drum style that almost sounds as if it derives from grindcore (which this band otherwise is definitely not). At times this is a rather interesting effect, at other times it comes across as a bit distracting. That aside, Fragments haven't yet established themselves as a truly original act, but they are more than capable at what they do.
