This Lithuanian band got their start around 1993
and have built up a solid career in their home country.
Their music is often labelled pagan metal (the members
themselves have used the phrase heathen war heavy metal),
which really translates to a style that borrows a bit from the
black and viking metal genres, without quite fitting in either.
The vocals are hoarse and gruff (but not growly), and the songs
race along pretty nicely, with a keen sense of melody and an
overall style that is pretty unique.
At times the songs get rather samey (an overly prevalent use
of blast beats contributes to this), but overall
Is Kartos A Kartr (their 2005 release) is an interesting
proposition for those
looking for a different spin on black/viking metal.
