Arguably the most well-known band from Turkey, Pentagram
(no relation to the American cult doom band
Pentagram)
formed in 1986 and released a couple of albums in their home country
to little fanfare, but made international noise with 1997's
Anatolia, a potent traditional power metal album
(think
Queensryche,
Megadeth,
and a touch of
Alice In Chains)
that blended some Middle Eastern melodies to great effect.
Because of the conflict with the aforementioned Pentagram, the
band is officially known as Mezarkabul internationally.
