Sentenced

Sentenced ranks with Amorphis amongst Finland's most lasting metal bands, and the two have similar career paths, both originating in the death metal field before gradually progressing towards a more traditional metal style. For Sentenced, Amok was the transition album (and often listed as the band's best), forsaking much of the previous death metal roots for a midpaced dark metal sound. Following bassist/vocalist Taneli Jarva's departure (who has now re-emerged in The Black League) after Amok, the band has continued to move toward a cleaner, somber mid-paced gothic rock/metal style. They decided to disband in 2005, releasing one last studio album (The Funeral Album) as well as a DVD/CD of their last ever concert (Buried Alive).
