Striker

Well into the new millennium, there still are (and probably always will be) a multitude of bands that pay homage to metal styles of yore. Alberta's own Striker is just such a band, playing a decidedly European power/speed/heavy metal style on 2013's Armed To The Teeth. Some such bands come off as too retro or stale, but fortunately Striker has enough talent and chops to pull it off, wearing their influences proudly and yet still able to inject enough energy and passion to make the listen worthwhile. It's been said before and it bears repeating: this is not modern metal and yes, there's not a lot of originality here, but that's beside the point. Striker knows what they're doing and they're doing it well.
